Canon Pixma iP100

The latest addition to Canon’s range of successful Pixma portable inkjet printers is the Canon Pixma iP100. Even though portable printers tend to sacrifice quality for comfort, Canon’s iP inkjet printers have always given outstanding results. The new Canon Pixma iP100 photo printer is the first portable photo printer with a resolution of 9600 dots per inch. Priced at around $249, the printer may cost more than other printers in the same category, but combines excellent quality and fast printing speed together into a smooth, portable case.

Weighing a bit over 4 pounds, the Canon Pixma iP100 portable printer is heavier than other portable printers available; however, its compact 12.7 by 7.2 by 2.4- inch body will allow it to fit comfortably inside your laptop case. Being small in size, the printer also consumes less ink compared to larger printers. The iP100 requires a black (costing $11.99) and tricolor cartridge (costing $16.99), with a 8 by 10 black-and-white print costing roughly about three cents and a 4 by 6 color print costing about 26 cents. There are several available options in terms of powering the iP100. You can either use the A/C adapter that comes with the printer or buy a car adapter and battery that can last around 3 hours without the need to recharge.

The iP100’s paper tray can cater to 2 by 3, 4 by 6, 4 by 8, 5 by 7 and 8 by 10 inch paper. The printer is capable of printing high quality documents at impressive speeds. It can print a single-page document in about 13 seconds and a 10-page long PowerPoint presentation in less than five minutes. However, the drawback to this high speed is that the iP100 is noisier than most printers intended for home and office use.

On top of a typical PictBridge slot for connecting your camera or camera phone, the Canon Pixma iP100 printer features IrDa infrared as well as optional Bluetooth 2.0. Using the Bluetooth option, you can print photos wirelessly from your camera.

In all, the Canon Pixma iP100 has all the attributes of a great printer, but the only downside to it is the price. At $249, the iP100 can be considered a bit costly compared to other available alternatives. If the price of the iP100 is putting you off, you may consider buying the Canon Pixma MP Series that offers equivalent speed and quality at a lower price. But if portability matters to you, you should go for the iP100 as it offers leek portability and fast printing speeds without compromising on quality.
